Shoji was invented about a century after the appearance of Fusuma. ![]() Like Fusuma, Shoji also has thermal insulation and releases moisture. While Fusuma is mainly used to separate rooms, Shoji is typically used against windows because the paper used for Shoji is usually white and translucent so that natural light penetrates the room. In addition to dividing and decorating spaces, Fusuma also protects from the cold in winter and from the heat in summer for it which has a function of thermal insulation. Japanese cypress, cherry, Japanese cedar, and Japanese zelkova are the most used types of wood for buildings. The knots in woods are typically considered as decoration. Since ancient times, wood was given great respect by Japanese people and not covered by paint or other coatings when used for buildings. The invocation of the mantra became a central practice within this tradition, considered an efficacious means of achieving moksha or liberation.įurthermore, the mantra’s significance extends to the practice of nama japa, the repetition of God’s name as a spiritual discipline. Ramanuja propagated the concept of prapatti or complete surrender to God, encapsulated in this mantra. The mantra “Om Namo Narayanaya” gained significant prominence in the Sri Vaishnava tradition, following the teachings of the theologian and philosopher Ramanuja (1017-1137 CE). This belief highlights the sacred status of the mantra in Hindu tradition, seen not merely as a human creation but as a divine revelation. ![]() Although the exact origin of the mantra is difficult to pinpoint, it is believed to be revealed to ancient seers (rishis) during deep meditation. The mantra is attributed to the ancient Hindu scriptures, the Upanishads, which are philosophical texts exploring the concepts of Brahman and Atman (the self or soul). Its origin is enveloped in the larger religious and philosophical traditions of Hinduism. This mantra, known as the Ashtakshari Mantra or the eight-lettered invocation, is considered a powerful means of connecting with the divine. ![]() “Om Namo Narayanaya” is a significant mantra within Hinduism, particularly esteemed within the Vaishnavite tradition. This diversity of interpretations exemplifies the richness of Hindu religious thought and the inherent complexities of its vast tradition. To some, Narayana is a personal deity, an avatar of Vishnu or Krishna, while to others, Narayana embodies the ultimate reality or the cosmic principle. This interpretation elevates Narayana beyond a personal deity to a metaphysical concept.įrom an academic perspective, we have to understand that Narayana’s representation in Hinduism is far from homogenous, influenced by a variety of philosophical, theological and cultural factors. Advaita Vedanta, a school of Hindu philosophy, identifies Narayana as Brahman, the ultimate reality or supreme cosmic power in Hinduism. The name “Narayana” itself has been interpreted to mean “refuge of mankind,” reflecting a universal, encompassing nature. In a more philosophical vein, Narayana is viewed as the supreme reality or the ultimate truth in some Hindu philosophical systems. However, the exact relationship between Krishna, Vishnu, and Narayana differs across various Vaishnavite traditions, revealing the complex nature of Hindu theology. In the Bhagavad Gita, a sacred text from the Indian epic Mahabharata, Krishna identifies himself as Narayana, which further reinforces this association. Narayana is also closely tied to Lord Krishna, another key deity within Vaishnavism. In this context, Narayana epitomizes preservation and the upkeep of the universe, aligning with Vishnu’s role within the Trimurti of Hinduism, the triad of deities including Brahma (the creator) and Shiva (the destroyer). Vaishnavites typically regard Narayana as an avatar of Vishnu or, in some cases, equate the two figures outright. Nevertheless, a consensus exists that Narayana plays a fundamental role in the Hindu understanding of the divine and the universe’s constitution.Īs a deity, Narayana is often associated with Lord Vishnu, one of the principal deities in Hinduism’s Vaishnavism tradition. This dualism often leads to a degree of ambiguity in the interpretation of Narayana within scholarly discourse. Each pod has multiple stations (individual exercises). So basically, there are laps, pods, and stations.ĭepending on the day, the room is split up into a number of “pods,” aka groups of exercises completed in the same set. Here is a good explanation from another user, that describes it better than me OTF unlimited here is $159 versus $169-179 (can’t remember) for unlimited F45 I do the 8 class pack at OTF because I supplement elsewhere and pay $99. there aren’t tiered options for membership - only unlimited or class packs it’s VERY easy to hurt yourself/get lists because there are SO many different exercises coaches don’t demo (only on the screen) coaches aren’t wearing a mic (only going around) I also don’t think I could do F45 without the prior 2 years of OTF. Tues / Thurs / Sun at F45 are specifically strength days which are the only ones I’ve been doing - it’s soooo much harder than OTF (imo) and I truly feel an all over muscle soreness but OTF gives you a lot of cardio each class between the tread and rower. I go OTF after work 3 times a week and F45 on Sundays right now. There are 3 OTFs around me (1 right next to my work) so i couldn’t give it up. I was toying with the idea of switching to only F45 but there’s only 1 in my city that just opened and it’s downtown (aka city traffic and no parking). I’ve been doing OTF for 2 years but started supplementing with F45 class packs 2 months ago. Ensure to ask which days are strength days and which ones are cardio so you try both styles. Locations in Canada have 7 day free trial for F45 so I def recommend you check it out. While they are absolutely right that they don't charge for the Challenges, they somehow forgot to mention that you will need to pay $50 for the two scans on their InBody machine. Again felt like a trick and while it's not about money per se, just feels shitty where someone says half truths. As I joined the recent challenge, I found out that I need to pay for two body scans at $25 each in order to participate. Another items that I don't like is that they pushed that unlike OTF, they don't charge for Challenges (at least in my studio). THe only premium thing I can see is that there are TWO coaches per class vs one at OTF but nothing else. I still have no clue what they mean and when I ask the owners - they feed me used car salesmen talk and it annoys me so I stopped asking. The only things I don't like about F45 so far which might vary studio from studio but they push heavily that they are more PREMIUM option to OTF. I like that F45 has timed approach with sets repeating twice or sometimes three times so you can really concentrate on the form and process vs trying to do 30 reps and run to rower. OTF would push for number of reps and then go to rower or something else so naturally i'd always feel like i didn't want to be the last one to go (yes I know I shouldn't care). The biggest improvement i see for me at F45 is the fact that you don't feel rushed through exercised. I've never been to Shred415 so cannot comment on it. My studio does some days with mostly weight training and some days have more of a cardio style work out while still using weights but a lot of body weight exercises in between. F45 is definitely a lot more weight training but it also depends on the days. ![]() I've been going to OTF for several years before switching to F45 quite recently. I will take their circuit fit class here and there. I dont want super heavy weights, like 15-30lbs. I am not into Crossfit, though I have tried it out by me and loved the studio and people. I need 30 min of weights vs just 14.5 during an hour class. Really wanting to get back to my Shred body and OTF just isn't cutting it. What is a pod? How many people are in a class? Is it similar to Shred or Crosstown or Sweat (also Chicago based that had HIIT and AMRAP workouts, not crossfit). I've checked out a few of the exercises on this page. I have seen F45 pop up a few times here and there. I also loved being able to sign up for Abs/Arms days, Butt/Leg days or Total Body depending on what areas I wanted to focus on (or needed a break from). I feel like I had much better overall workout at Shred. I've been going 5-6 days a week for 2 months and see zero improvement. There is no Shred415 by me, so I joined OTF. Now, with COVID, I'm working from home and not going to Chicago. ![]() Has anyone gone to Shred415 and/or Orange Theory?
